Explanation of air purifier efficiency

Hepa air filters on IQAir Healthpro filters out viruses, tobacco smoke, house dust mite allergens, bacteria, and germs

by David Barnaby, AllergyBuyersClub.com Staff

Editor's note: At our office, David is the unabashed IQAir enthusiast and tests all our HEPA air cleaners. I asked him recently to put down on paper why IQAir is his overall favorite HEPA air purifier. This is what he sent me, and I found it really worthwhile to reprint here in the newsletter.

  • The IQAir HealthPro and HealthPro Plus air purifier models are at least 99.97% efficient at removing particulates down to 0.3 of a micron. This is the actual air purifier efficiency when the air cleaner is running as opposed to the filter's efficiency when tested on its own outside of the machine.

However, this air purifier goes a step further and addresses the particulates even smaller which consist of viruses, tobacco smoke, house dust mite allergens, bacteria/germs, cat allergens, oil smokes, fumes, and smog.

This is important because 90% of the particulates in the air are 0.3 of a micron and smaller.

The HealthPro will perform 50% better than other air purifiers by achieving at least 99.5% efficiency on particles 0.16 of a micron in size and smaller.

This is what places the IQAir HealthPro and HealthPro Plus air purifier models above the rest of the air cleaners out there. The ability to perform in this way is possible due to its 3D sealed housing that allows none of the air to bypass the filters in addition to its Clean room-grade HyperHEPA filter.
