Dear Everyone,

Turn that appliance off!

We had a nasty scare recently. We were going out to dinner one evening, and I decided to switch on our two month old, top of the line, famous brand, humidifier, so that the bedroom would be properly humidified by the time we went to sleep. Just before we were leaving, the plug and cord broke into flames. I quickly unplugged it with no damage done.

I had always wondered how people managed to burn down their homes, now I know. After that experience, we leave no electrical device running in our house when we are out, even if it causes some inconvenience. That was a little too close for comfort. A version of “you think it can never happen here”. Take heed!
